Open Call to Artists and Curators

Pop-Up Art Loop™ is offering you the opportunity to showcase your work in exciting, unique new exhibition sites in the heart of Chicago’s Loop. We are currently seeking proposals from artists and curators for our 2013 Pop-Up Art Loop™ gallery locations.

How it Works

Unlike traditional galleries, Chicago Loop Alliance’s Pop-Up Art Loop™ does not own or rent gallery space. Instead, we secure temporary exhibition sites inside vacant storefronts and public spaces. The locations range from windows that may be viewed 24/7 to storefront and interior spaces. Beginning with three locations in 2009, our plan is to add new exhibition sites throughout Chicago’s central business district. There is no entry fee or rental fee to the artist. Each space is available thanks to the generosity of Loop property owners and the Chicago Loop Alliance.

Pop-Up Art Loop™ is looking for artwork in a variety of media from individuals and groups:

  • 2D visual art
  • sculpture
  • video or new media
  • installations
  • live art

Every exhibit-site relationship has its own set of guidelines in terms of size, visibility, and other physical requirements. Typically you will supply all the materials as well as hardware for mounting your exhibit. You should be prepared to remove your work within 30 days should the space be rented. You must agree to leave each location in the same or better condition than you found it. This means that Chicago Loop Alliance or the property owner will not sustain costs to restore the location to an acceptable condition as a result of the installation.

Every installation is a one-of-a-kind experience that requires all parties to communicate about appropriate and inappropriate content for a specific gallery space. Pop-Up Art Loop™ doesn’t censor any artist’s work, but is sensitive to the needs and limitations of the property owners and particular locations. Art that will be visible from the sidewalk should abide by the content restrictions that apply to public art.

If an artist’s work is not consistent with what had been discussed and agreed upon, the exhibition will be terminated at CLA’s sole discretion.
